Gail Montplaisir, the president of Taurus Development Group, is a recognized leader in green development in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. For Gail, green development involves a comprehensive approach to analyzing local neighborhoods for sustainability and suitability, and then working with architect Norman Smith Architecture, designing and building residential and mixed-use projects that are front-runners in their integration of large-scale working green roofs, bio-retention areas, sustainable cabinetry and many other green features. “Being eco-chic™ encompasses not only my career life, real estate development and construction, but is pervasive through out my personal life” says Montplaisir.
Her attention to both the big picture and the small details is manifested in TDG’s signature eco-chic™ packages which incorporate not only green and sustainable features but incorporate them in a seamless package of vibrant, modern design. The eco-chic™ package is a constantly evolving approach to the design and construction of TDG projects and reflects Gail’s mantra that green development is needed not because it is required, but because it has and will continue to be the right thing to do.
“When it comes to our personal life, we earnestly try to reduce our carbon footprint whenever, wherever and however possible. For example, our county home in Rappahannock County uses passive solar to reduce the need for heat in the winter time; we are equipped with composting toilets and a gray water system.”
