Weekly Travel Review for 50+ People: November 22 2015 to November 28 2015

Thailand attracts as many as 30 million tourists per year. While cities like Bangkok and Pattaya are quite crowded and noisy, there are plenty of quiet places for those 50-years-old and over looking for serenity and relaxation in the year-round tropical climate.

Thailand is also an inexpensive place to visit. In recent months, with the rise of an American dollar, it has become even cheaper to stay in this Southeast Asian country. The same applies to other locations in the region. Below is a list of several relaxing places to consider.

Chiang Mai, northern Thailand

For those interested in the north of the country, Chiang Mai is a location to choose. The city is located among mountains and is near the borders of Myanmar and Laos. The city itself has fewer than 200,000 inhabitants, which makes it pretty quiet and relaxing.

While at Chiang Mai, you’ll get to enjoy beautiful countryside as well as ancient temples. Add to that exotic and delicious Thai cuisine, and you’ll have an exciting and peaceful vacation among the forested hills.

Krabi, southern Thailand

Krabi is a town located in southern Thailand, across the island of Phuket. But, it is not as crowded as most places in Phuket. One of the most beautiful, and serene places, in the area is the Railay Beach.

It takes only 10 minutes by boat to get there from a beach in Krabi, and going by boat is the only way as Railay Beach is surrounded by steep hills. This location has beautiful beaches, while cliffs add to dramatic views.

Palawan, Philippines

Palawan is a long and narrow island located in the west of the Filipino archipelago. However, it doesn’t take long to get there from other locations in the country.

It is one of the least populated parts of the Philippines. The island is also a relatively inexpensive place to stay. The natural beauty is astounding. You’ll find beautiful beaches and lots of quiet.

Puerto Princesa is where most of the visitors arrive. But, it’s not a location where the best beaches are, so many tourists get on the bus and travel for six hours to El Nido, located in the north of Palawan.

Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Sihanoukville is located in the south of Cambodia. The town has several beaches and the quietest is the Otres Beach. This is where you can stay in a bamboo hut for as little as $10 (with access to electricity and a bathroom).

Here, the beach is narrow. You’ll be able to sit down in a pub or a restaurant right on the beach, with the sea only several feet away. A very relaxing feeling place.

Southeast Asia is a place where you can party or relax, or do both. It isn’t expensive to visit and mostly safe for tourists. What's worth adding is that many comfortable VIP buses serve these locations should you choose to take one.
